Rhino is the premier early-stage venture fund in Western Canada, investing in some of the most iconic early-stage technology companies in Canada including Article, Thinkific, Klue, and FISPAN. 


We’re searching for a thorough, intrinsically motivated junior financial controller to lead our finance & accounting function. In this position, you will report to the partner responsible for internal operations and will be responsible for supporting the daily financial needs of Rhino including overseeing the accounting cycle, entity management, management of professional service providers including tax, accounting, and fund management, preparation and maintenance of NAV accounts, financial reporting requirements and LP correspondence. This position requires the ideal candidate to be a motivated self-starter, confident, able to work with minimal supervision, and flexible; willing to get involved in many different aspects of the business, as required. 


As a member of Rhino, you will be responsible for the following:


  • Financial Operations:  implementing and revising processes and procedures to ensure the daily operations of the business run efficiently
  • Financial Reporting: management and maintenance of NAV’s for all Rhino entities and quarterly fund reporting requirements for management and external investors 
  • Professional Services Management: managing the workflow from Rhino to various professional service providers including legal, accounting, tax and fund management
  • Banking: ownership of core banking relationships including treasury management, capital call lines, reconciliation of capital calls and distributions 
  • Special Projects: execution of independent projects offering value to Rhino, as required


Skills/Qualifications:


  • CA, CPA, or equivalent designation with a minimum of 3 years of public practice experience, private capital fund experience is a bonus but not required
  • Genuine interest in startup’s, entrepreneurship, VC, or technology
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to develop effective relationships
  • Superior work ethic with an ownership and entrepreneurial mentality with uncompromising personal integrity
  • Curious, Resourceful, Get Sh*t Done Attitude
  • Exceptionally well organized and detail oriented
  • Strong communicator (written and verbal)
  • Independent, with limited need for supervision and self-driven to get tasks done
  • Capable of managing many projects in parallel with an ability to prioritize
